 Admissions Policy of the Graduate School of Information Science and Technology

1. Qualities we look for in applicants 

 Master's course  Doctoral course

 The applicant should demonstrate a strong interest in information science and technology, as well as a desire to draw on their abilities to further the development of society by refining their knowledge and skills. 

The applicant should possess basic knowledge and skills in information science and technology, as well as specialized expertise in information systems, information media, robotics, or simulation technology. 

The applicant should be able to harness their knowledge and skills outlined above to propose or develop new theories, technologies, or services related to information science.

 The applicant should demonstrate a strong interest in information science and technology, as well as a desire to contribute to the future development of this academic field. 

The applicant should possess a reasonable amount of highly specialized knowledge and skills in information science and technology. 

The applicant should be able to conduct independent research in information science and technology.

2. Entrance examinations will be held in accordance with our basic admission evaluation criteria outlined in "Qualities we look for in applicants." Regular students

 Skills evaluated  The written exam evaluates the applicant's basic knowledge and skills in the core subjects that constitute the academic field of information science, including mathematics, information mathematics, and algorithms. The external English proficiency test evaluates the applicant's practical English proficiency required for researchers. The interview evaluates the applicant's motivation and interest in information science, as well as their attitude toward conducting independent research.  The written exam evaluates the applicant's broad expertise in the field of information science as well as their in-depth knowledge and skills in their area of specialization through questions on both core subjects and specialized subjects in information science. The external English proficiency test evaluates the applicant's practical English proficiency required for researchers. Comprising a presentation by the applicant on their research and a viva voce exam related to it, the oral exam evaluates the applicant's in-depth knowledge in their area of specialization, their past research achievements, their motivation and interest in information science, as well as their attitude toward conducting independent research.
 Evaluation method/weighting  Disciplinary exam (mathematics, information mathematics, algorithms), external English proficiency test (TOEIC), and interview The applicant's scores for the disciplinary exam, the English test, and the interview will be weighted in the ratio of 4:1:1.  Disciplinary exam (core subjects and specialized subjects), external English proficiency test (TOEIC), and oral exam (presentation and viva voce exam) The applicant's scores for the disciplinary exam, the English test, and the oral exam will be weighted in the ratio of 1:1:1.
