Information on this page is a summary; be sure to obtain the formal application guidelines before applying. Be noted also that approval from an expected supervising instructor is mandatory for the application.

Master's course international student entrance examination

  • Prescreening: Late August
  • Application period: Early September
  • Examination date: Early October/late September
  • Examination subjects
    • Specialized subjects (400 points/120 minutes): Mathematics, information mathematics, algorithms and data structures
    • English (100 points): TOEIC (R) test scores to be converted on a 100-point scale
    • Interview (100 points/15 minutes): Application reasons, graduation research, graduate research plan, future plan, self-promotion
  • Application fee(as of April 2016): 30,000 yen

Note:

  • Questions/answers on specialized courses to be in Japanese; interviews to be conducted in Japanese
  • International students qualified to apply and deemed eligible for scholarship plans offered under public or similar organizations will be exempt from academic examinations but interviews, provided that the eligibility for such plans will be reviewed and confirmed before the results to be given.
  • Application fee(as of April 2016): 30,000 yen

Doctoral course international student entrance examination

Fall application

  • Prescreening: Late August
  • Application period: Early September
  • Examination date: Early October

Spring application

  • Prescreening: Late December
  • Application period: Early January
  • Examination date: Early February
  • Examination subjects
    • Specialized subjects (100 points/120 minutes): Basic information subjects, specialized subjects in research areas where applicants hope to receive research supervision
    • English (100 points): TOEIC (R) test scores to be converted on a 100-point scale
    • Interview (100 points/30 minutes): 20-minute presentation of research results, research areas, research plans, etc.; 10-minute oral questions/answers

Note:

  • Questions/answers on specialized courses to be in Japanese; interviews to be conducted in Japanese or English
  • International students qualified to apply and deemed eligible for scholarship plans offered under public or similar organizations will be exempt from academic examinations but oral examinations, provided that the eligibility for such plans will be reviewed and confirmed before the results to be given.
  • Applicant with a recommendation from the expected supervising instructor will be exempt from academic examinations but oral examinations
  • Applicant recommended by the expected supervising instructor and employed as a full-time instructor at a higher education institution or a full-time researcher at a public research institution may take oral examinations through a teleconference system (Skype, etc.,) subject to prior screening
  • Application fee(as of April 2016): 30,000 yen
